The US has intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf as part of its naval blockade, Donald Trump has stated.
President Trump reported on his Truth Social platform that the Touska was seized by the US Navy following its failure to heed warnings to stop. As of now, Iran has not issued any comments regarding this event.
This announcement comes in conjunction with the White House confirming that US Vice President JD Vance will lead another delegation for a second round of talks aimed at ending the ongoing war with Iran in Pakistan.
Reports indicate that Tehran has not confirmed attendance at these talks, with Iranian state media stating that officials would not participate while the US blockade persisted.
Trump elaborated, stating that the TOUSKA—a large vessel weighing almost as much as an aircraft carrier—had attempted to breach the blockade but was successfully intercepted. He mentioned that the Navy fired upon the ship in a show of force.
Footage released by US Central Command purportedly shows a naval vessel intercepting the cargo ship.
Despite ongoing negotiations, tensions remain high, especially concerning Iran's nuclear ambitions and control over key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil transportation.
The ongoing conflict originated from US and Israeli strikes in Iran and has led to a series of retaliatory exchanges across the Middle East.
Trump has asserted that the naval blockade will remain until a satisfactory deal is reached between the two nations. He also claimed that Iran has violated ceasefire agreements by attacking other vessels in recent days.
With worries about potential escalations, the situation continues to evolve as diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate the situation.
