LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a deeply unsettling incident, Los Angeles police have arrested Nick Reiner, 32, for the alleged murder of his parents, beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and the political community, where the couple was highly regarded.

Police discovered the couple dead in their upscale Brentwood home, reportedly from stab wounds. Nick Reiner was apprehended shortly after the murders and is currently being held without bail while prosecutors decide on charges.

Rob Reiner, best known for his work on the iconic sitcom “All in the Family” and films like “When Harry Met Sally...” and “The Princess Bride,” was a prominent figure in liberal politics. Michele Singer Reiner was celebrated not only for her photography and production work but also for her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights. The couple had been together for 36 years.

No motive for the killings has been disclosed by the police, and representatives for the Reiner family have not provided comments related to the ongoing investigation. However, investigators believe the couple died from stab wounds, according to an anonymous law enforcement official.

The Reiners' deaths are particularly shocking due to the family's comedic legacy; Rob was the son of comedy icon Carl Reiner, who passed away in 2020. Friends and colleagues have begun to pay tribute, expressing their sorrow at the loss of such influential figures.

Kathy Bates, who starred in Rob Reiner’s movie “Misery,” shared, “Rob was brilliant and kind... Michele was a gifted photographer.” Former President Bill Clinton remembered the couple as generous individuals, who through their art uplifted countless lives.

Three months ago, Nick was seen with his parents at the premiere of Rob’s latest film, “Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues.” The relationship between father and son, once strained due to Nick's struggles with addiction, was reportedly mended through a film they made together in 2016 titled “Being Charlie.”

The Reiners, known for their advocacy of democratic causes, have left behind a legacy marred by this tragedy. As the investigation continues, the Hollywood community mourns the loss of two of its brightest stars.
