Estonia has reported that a NATO fighter jet shot down a drone, suspecting it to be a Ukrainian projectile that veered off course due to Russian electronic jamming. Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that a Romanian F-16 fired a missile at the drone, with debris landing in a marshy area in central Estonia on Tuesday. Fortunately, no damage was reported.

In response, Ukraine accused Russia of intentionally redirecting its drones aimed at military targets in Russia, offering apologies to Estonia and its Baltic neighbors for the unintended incident.

This occurrence comes amid a series of drone incursions over NATO members Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, with Russia yet to comment on the situation. Recent developments have escalated tensions, particularly after Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina's resignation linked to similar issues involving Ukrainian drones.

Estonian officials stated they were aware of the drone's approach prior to its intrusion into their airspace and had received early warnings from Latvia. Pevkur confirmed discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart, emphasizing that Estonia had not authorized the use of its airspace by anyone outside its allies.

Local media reported that the drone fell into a forest area near a residential building, with witnesses describing a loud bang as it descended. Heightened concerns regarding regional stability continue as the Baltic states remain vigilant against potential provocations from Russia as Ukraine increases its military operations.
