Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola death, a Kenyan citizen who had been residing in the Democratic Republic of Congo for seven years.
The patient fell seriously ill a month ago, was treated in several hospitals in the Congo, and passed away after arriving in Nairobi.
Health Minister Aden Duale confirmed the patient board a flight on Saturday, underwent routine airport screening, and was then taken by a relative to a Nairobi hospital where tests detected the Bundibugyo strain.
More than 4,000 people have died from Ebola in the Congo this year, making it the country’s second most deadly outbreak.
This case highlights the critical importance of rapid detection and cross‑border health collaboration to contain the spread of highly lethal diseases.
