A former North Carolina police officer, Karson Hyder, was charged with assault after a doorbell camera video captured him repeatedly punching a woman during a break‑in response. The clip, which has been shared widely on social media, shows the officer throwing punches at the 34‑year‑old Cherrie Moore after she allegedly resisted arrest.

Hyder, 22, turned himself in to the Cleveland County detention center on Monday and was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He was suspended Friday and fired Saturday; court records show no listed attorney and his associated phone number is no longer in service.

According to the warrant, the incident occurred while Hyder was responding to a breaking‑and‑entering call at a private residence. The video depicts Hyder grabbing the woman, pushing her to the floor, and striking her face with a closed fist, causing injuries that could include a broken nose and damaged lip.

The State Bureau of Investigation announced that it has opened an inquiry into the conduct of the former officer. Public reaction to the footage has spurred demands for accountability and a review of police procedures in the area.

Moore, who faced initial charges of breaking and entering and resisting arrest, subsequently had those charges dismissed. She was freed on an unsecured bond after evidence indicated she was being treated for mental health concerns. Her attorney, Ronald Haynes, confirmed that her client is recovering and receiving treatment.
