A 17‑year‑old from North Carolina has been charged with murder by aiding and abetting after prosecutors claim she livestreamed a May 2026 attack on the Islamic Centre of San Diego that left three people dead.
The teenager is alleged to have posted a manifesto from the two teenage gunmen who opened fire on the mosque. She reportedly used a GoPro‑style helmet camera to record the violence, which authorities say was intentional to create a live broadcast.
District Attorney Jim O’Neill said at a news conference that the teen, now facing three murder counts and one charge of conspiracy, “couldn’t have imagined the impact of her actions.” Under North Carolina law an aiding‑and‑abetting defendant can be held as criminally responsible as the principal offenders.
The attackers, aged 17 and 18, were found to have an arsenal of about 30 firearms and a crossbow, allegedly taken from a parent’s home. They also left behind writings containing racist and antisemitic rhetoric and references to white‑supremacist ideology, drawing parallels to the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings.
Security guard Amin Abdullah, who engaged the attackers in a shoot‑out and helped secure roughly 140 children inside, was killed on the scene. Police Chief Scott Wahl described Abdullah’s actions as “heroic” and credited them with saving lives.
Police investigators say the gunmen had planned additional attacks on a local Jewish temple and a predominantly African‑American high school. The case has now been forwarded to a grand jury for further proceedings.
