Ariana Grande Demands White House Pull Her Music from Immigration Ad
Pop star Ariana Grande has publicly asked the Trump administration to stop using her 2024 single "Bye" in a short‑form video that was promoting the president’s border‑control agenda.
The TikTok clip, released on Monday, shows border‑security officers placing handcuffs on detained individuals before escorting them into government vehicles. Grandes 2024 hit played in the background while the caption read: "Bye‑bye… President Trump has delivered the most secure border in history." The singer described the partnership as "heinous nonsense," adding that her voice and words should not be used to justify what she defined as barbaric, inhumane actions.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded, saying that the real cruelty involved is that of the alleged illegal aliens who have allegedly harmed Americans. Following the backlash, the White House muted the audio and removed the caption from the post, but a debate remains over copyright and political messaging.
The short clip comes after Republican President Donald Trump signed a bill that will allocate more than $70 bn (£52 bn) for immigration agencies for the remainder of his term. Critics argue the funding will support aggressive enforcement tactics and, over one hundred years of data, more agencies will raise lobbying involvement.
Ariana is not alone. Other artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Beyoncé, ABBA and Céline Dion have all requested they not be used for the administration’s policy messaging. They cite concerns over how their music is paired with depictions of ICE and border forces.
