Watch: 'Scariest night' as Ukraine fails to intercept Russian attack
The night that turned a small Ukrainian town into a battlefield: Russia launched a massive onslaught of 115 drones and 24 ballistic missiles around Ukraine, killing 21 people and wounding dozens.
With Kyiv’s air‑defence batteries largely depleted, the initial strike inflicted widespread damage. While most of the drones were intercepted, a string of ballistic missiles slipped through the thin shield, striking residential areas.
Anastasiia Dudley’s home in the outskirts of Kyiv suffered significant damage. “I never imagined this sort of destruction will hit my own city,” she told reporters. She described the evening as the “scariest night” of the war.
BBC correspondent Dan Johnson travelled to the neighbourhood to see the devastation and gauge the emotional cost for residents, who are living under the constant threat of attack.
