Rescuers Keep Search Alive for Survivors in La Guaira Collapse

On June 24 a 7.0‑magnitude earthquake shook Venezuela’s western coast, crushing a high‑rise in the La Guaira area and leaving dozens of people trapped under rubble.

Rescue teams, city officials and local volunteers have pushed into the wreckage over the past week, working through broken concrete and stacked debris to find signs of life.

Families and neighbors, many with limited tools, have joined the search, feeling beneath the rubble with bare hands in hopes of locating stranded relatives.

Despite the loss of more than 1,700 lives, the search continues, as journalists and emergency workers portray scenes of still‑alive victims and their rescuers moving through the devastation.
