Equatorial Guinea's government has resigned after failing to meet its targets, according to Vice‑President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue.

The resignation is linked to the government's poor execution and alleged misuse of state resources. A statement by the ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) said the president was dissatisfied with the outgoing government's management.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has ruled since 1979, has repeatedly appointed family members to key positions, including the current Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua, who was appointed in 2024.

The PDGE noted that the government had not implemented policies to diversify the economy, especially in the agricultural sector, leaving the country overly reliant on petroleum revenues.

Despite oil wealth, much of Equatorial Guinea's 1.8 million population remains in poverty, with the economy declining amid reduced production and demand for oil.

A new government is expected to be appointed shortly, following the vice‑president's statement that "the degree of execution achieved is clearly insufficient in relation to the expectations and commitments undertaken."
