17 Injured as Tourist Train Upsides‑Down During Cártama Tapas Festival

A tourist train wagon overturned on a curve near Santo Cristo road in the town of Cártama, southern Spain, leaving 17 people injured. The accident occurred after 21:30 local time on a Saturday evening, with authorities yet to determine the exact cause.

Emergency crews responded quickly, treating passengers on scene and transporting four—including three children—to a nearby hospital. Local officials confirm that, while injured, none suffered serious harm.

The event, part of the free “Ruta de la Tapa y el Cóctel,” invites tourists to sample local food and drinks at scattered restaurants and bars, collecting stamps for a raffle. Around 30 passengers were aboard when the crash happened.

The train service was suspended for the weekend as investigators look into the incident. Cártama lies 17 km from Málaga and is within a 44‑minute drive of Marbella, making it a popular stop for visitors to the Costa del Sol.
