Germany's largest rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, halted services across the country overnight after an IT malfunction crippled its digital radio network.

All trains were held at stations for more than two and a half hours following a failure in the GSM‑R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railways) network.

The operator said technicians resolved the glitch, but warned that delays and cancellations would likely persist as it worked to restore service.

Deutsche Bahn offered compensation in the form of taxi and hotel vouchers and pledged replacement transport where possible.

Berlin's S‑Berlin line said trains could now run, though further delays were still expected.

The incident highlighted the critical role of wireless communication in modern rail operations and left passengers seeking alternative travel options.
