Woman Seriously Injured in Shark Attack at Sydney Coogee Beach

A 35‑year‑old woman sustained serious injuries after being bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach in Sydney, according to New South Wales Police.

Emergency responders were called early Saturday, pulling the victim from the water, delivering first aid, and then airlifting her to a hospital.

The incident prompted temporary closures of nearby beaches as a precautionary measure.

This follows recent shark attacks in Australia, where nearly 1,300 incidents have been recorded since 1791, including over 260 fatalities.

Despite the prevalence of attacks, improved monitoring and safety protocols continue to reduce risks.
