Safety Alert: US Energy Drink Recalled After Vodka Mix-Up

The US FDA warns consumers to check Celsius energy drinks after a packaging error led to accidental vodka filling.

A mix-up involving Celsius energy drink cans filled with vodka has prompted the US FDA to issue a safety warning, affecting several states and leading to product recalls.

The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued an urgent warning to consumers regarding Celsius energy drinks, particularly the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition, due to a packaging error that resulted in some cans being mistakenly filled with vodka. This unusual situation arose when a supplier inadvertently shipped empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer producer, which subsequently filled them with their alcoholic beverage.

In light of this problem, High Noon is also recalling specific Beach Variety packs that came from the same production run. Fortunately, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported so far concerning the affected products, as stated by the USFDA.

The recall relates to two production lots specifically mentioned on the USFDA website. These items were distributed to various retailers across several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.

Consumers should be attentive to the retail code and lot codes on their products. The impacted High Noon Beach Variety packs bear the retail code UPC 085000040065 and the lot codes: L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59 and L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. The Celsius cans have the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 along with the lot codes: L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11; these codes can be found laser-etched at the bottom of the cans.

In a safety advisory, the USFDA instructed consumers to safely dispose of the affected Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans and refrain from consuming any liquid contained within. It noted that other varieties of High Noon Beach packs, which feature different lot codes, should remain safe for purchase and consumption.
