FDA Issues Urgent Warning Over Mislabelled Celsius Energy Drink Cans Containing Vodka
A significant recall has been announced after Celsius energy drink cans were mistakenly filled with vodka due to a packaging error, raising health concerns among consumers.
The US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued a warning to consumers regarding the Celsius energy drinks, particularly the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition, after several cans were inadvertently filled with vodka. The incident occurred due to a mix-up at a packaging supplier, which shipped empty Celsius cans to the vodka seltzer maker High Noon. The latter subsequently filled these cans with alcoholic content.
In light of this mistake, High Noon is also recalling certain Beach Variety packs derived from the same production line. Fortunately, there have been no reported illnesses or adverse reactions linked to the affected products, according to USFDA statements.
Consumers should be mindful that the recall affects two specific production lots, which the USFDA has detailed on its official website. These products were distributed to various retailers across several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.
The High Noon Beach Variety packs subject to the recall feature the retail code UPC 085000040065, with the following lot codes: L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59 and L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. Likewise, the Celsius cans that need to be scrutinized have the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and the corresponding lot codes: L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11. Consumers can find the lot codes laser-etched on the bottom of the cans.
In alignment with USFDA recommendations, consumers are urged to immediately dispose of any Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans with the implicated lot codes and refrain from consuming the contents. It's crucial to note that High Noon packs with different lot codes are not included in the recall and remain safe for consumption.
