Gulf Cryo’s new carbon‑capture facility in Abu Dhabi is slated to start production within weeks, adding to its operational plant in Ras Al Khaimah. Carbon capture is a process that collects carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from industrial sources, preventing them from entering the atmosphere. The plant’s launch was announced at ADIPEC 2026, the world‑largest gathering for energy and gas technology, by the company’s Chief Commercial Officer Georgios Beretsos.

Strategic Significance and Deployment

The announcement reinforces Gulf Cryo’s long‑term presence in the United Arab Emirates, a market that remains its largest. The company, which has operated in the UAE for decades, has historically been a key player in the development of the country’s industrial gases sector. Beretsos noted that Gulf Cryo has invested substantially to build domestic manufacturing infrastructure and that the new plant will enhance supply resilience amid global supply chain uncertainties that were amplified during the COVID‑19 pandemic.

Gulf Cryo’s plant will feed captured CO₂ into a range of local industrial applications, including desalination plants, the food industry, and other heavy‑industry processes that can use the gas as a feedstock. The company says this aligns with its broader decarbonisation strategy, which includes developing “circular‑economy” initiatives that recycle emissions into useful products.

With more than 70 years of experience in the gases sector, Gulf Cryo supplies industrial and medical gases to sectors across 10 countries, including petrochemicals, healthcare, metals, manufacturing, shipbuilding, and oil and gas. The company’s expansion to a second carbon‑capture site in Abu Dhabi marks its fifth participation in ADIPEC, where Gulf Cryo has showcased both existing and upcoming decarbonisation solutions.

The new Abu Dhabi facility is expected to begin operations in the coming weeks, following the completion of its construction and commissioning phases. The plant’s operational start will expand Gulf Cryo’s existing capacity, which currently includes a fully functioning site in Ras Al Khaimah that also captures CO₂.

While the WAM article does not detail specific technical specifications of the new plant, it highlights Gulf Cryo’s emphasis on innovation in carbon capture and purification. The company states that its decarbonisation pipeline will produce high‑purity CO₂ suitable for critical industrial applications, thereby helping partners reduce their greenhouse‑gas footprints.

As Gulf Cryo moves forward with the Abu Dhabi launch, the UAE’s national sustainability agenda gains an additional supply chain node. This supports the country’s ambitions to lower emissions across the industrial spectrum while maintaining its status as a major economic hub for industrial gases and gases‑based solutions.
