Authorities reported the aircraft was overdue shortly after the pilot communicated intentions to enter a holding pattern due to runway clearances. Meanwhile, the U.S. Coast Guard is actively supporting recovery efforts while the investigation continues.

Alaska Plane Crash Claims Lives of All 10 Onboard
Tragic plane crash leaves all onboard confirmed dead as investigations begin; weather conditions hinder recovery.
Crews continue to recover the bodies of ten individuals who lost their lives in an Alaska plane crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is in the preliminary investigation phase to determine the cause of the crash, which involved a Cessna Grand Caravan operated by Bering Air. The aircraft was en route from Unalakleet to Nome when it suddenly lost radar contact about 34 miles southeast of Nome, eventually crashing into Norton Sound. Among the deceased were two employees from the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, who were in the region for maintenance work. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy expressed condolences and noted the challenges recovery teams are facing due to adverse weather and the wreck's location on a moving ice floe. Local officials, including Alaska's Senator and Governor, shared their sympathies, reinforcing the tight-knit nature of the Alaskan community.
