BOSTON — The Northeast and Great Lakes regions are currently experiencing significant travel disruptions due to a severe winter storm. As the busy holiday travel period unfolds, thousands are facing delays or cancellations. Reports indicate that over 1,500 flights were canceled as of Saturday morning, with New York City receiving nearly three inches of snow.
Major airports, including Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy, and LaGuardia, have issued warnings via social media, alerting passengers to potential flight disruptions as conditions worsen. The National Weather Service is advising of hazardous travel conditions extending from the Great Lakes through southern New England, highlighting risks of tree damage and power outages.
In response to the storm, New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for large portions of the state, while Acting New Jersey Governor Tahesha Way extended the emergency statewide. “This storm will cause dangerous road conditions and impact holiday travel,” Way remarked, urging travelers to avoid unnecessary travel.
Officials are encouraging the public to monitor local weather updates, expect road closures, and adhere to safety protocols as the storm's effects continue into the coming days.
