A father in Le Fauga, a village of about 2,600 residents just outside Toulouse, was sentenced to six months in prison after threatening to kill the primary school teacher who had disciplined his son.
The case unfolded on Friday and triggered a fast‑track hearing on Thursday. The teacher, who was granted official protection, has since taken sick leave.
Education Minister Edouard Geffray said that “No teacher should be afraid to do their job. Attacking one of them is attacking the entire institution.” He noted that the new law on safety risk will be used, with plans to transfer the boy and his younger sister to another school.
The incident echoes the 2020 murder of Samuel Paty in the Paris suburb of Conflans‑Sainte‑Honorine, where a teacher was beheaded by a 18‑year‑old Chechen refugee. The threat here involved a father who waited outside the school and threatened to “cut off her head if she was a man”. After a judicial complaint, the father apologized, but the court ordered the six‑month sentence.
