RYE, N.Y. (Quanta Report) – Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, has filed a $250,000 negligence lawsuit against her suburban hometown of Rye, New York, and Consolidated Edison, a power utility. The lawsuit alleges that she sustained serious personal injuries after tripping over a large wooden block that was protruding from a steel plate in the road while walking on August 28. This incident occurred shortly after she had been confirmed as the top federal prosecutor for Washington, D.C.

The steel plate was covering excavation work related to gas-main installation by Consolidated Edison, according to the amended complaint filed in New York state court. Pirro contends that the negligence of the defendants resulted in serious injuries, including bruises and contusions on her head, face, and shoulder, along with persistent pain and discomfort.

At 74, Pirro mentioned that she was confined to bed and required medical assistance due to the injuries she sustained in the fall, leading to ongoing issues with pain.

In response to the lawsuit, representatives for Pirro, Rye, and Consolidated Edison declined to make comments on the pending litigation. Furthermore, in attempts to dismiss the claims, an attorney for Rye indicated that the city could not be held responsible for negligence due to the lack of a designated pedestrian walkway at the incident's location. Similarly, Consolidated Edison argued that the risks associated with the worksite were obvious and apparent to pedestrians.

Jeanine Pirro, who has previously served as a judge and as the district attorney for Westchester County, is currently seeking justice in what she claims to be a clear case of negligence.
