On a typical busy evening near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of a loud explosion. The detonating car left at least eight people dead and over 20 injured, its impact reportedly powerful enough to damage nearby vehicles and be heard kilometers away.
The police are conducting an investigation into the explosion, which has sent shockwaves through a significant area of Delhi, known for its heavy security and bustling activity. The incident has disrupted the vibrancy of Chandni Chowk, a major trading and clothing hub, especially during the peak wedding season.
Residents recalled the harrowing moments following the explosion. Mohamed Hafiz, who lives nearby, initially thought it was an earthquake. Witnessing the aftermath filled him with terror; people ran in panic, cars burst into flames, and bodies lay scattered on the street. “There was blood everywhere. People were in shock. The scene was too disturbing - I could even see body parts,” Hafiz recalled.
The news spread quickly, leading to a high alert declared by police while neighboring states took similar precautions. As fear gripped the city, locals expressed disbelief that such a violent act could occur amid Delhi’s bustling life.
The atmosphere was tense as officials secured the area for investigation, while hospitals like Lok Nayak treated the injured. Families of victims gathered anxiously, searching for loved ones amid the chaos. Mohammed Azghar, a distraught brother whose relative went missing in the blast, shared his anguish, yearning for any information. “I just want some news - good or bad,” he stated, underscoring the emotional toll of this tragedy.
