Dan Driscoll, the 41‑year‑old Army Secretary, announced his resignation after 18 months in the role.
The decision followed months of friction between him and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to CBS and other outlets.
Known as Trump’s “drone guy”, Driscoll pushed the administration’s focus on unmanned systems and led the Army through a period of extensive personnel reshuffling.
He also played a key role in discussions aimed at ending the Russia‑Ukraine conflict and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Driscoll’s resignation comes amid a pattern of high‑profile departures, including Navy Secretary John Phelan and several army leaders such as General Guy and Major‑General William Green.
The move highlights ongoing tensions within the Pentagon under Hegseth’s brief tenure, as the Defence Secretary has fired more than a dozen senior officers.
