Antonio Brown, a former NFL star, has been arrested in Dubai on an attempted murder charge, stemming from a shooting incident that occurred in Miami after a celebrity boxing event. This alarming development was confirmed by Miami police on Thursday.

The 37-year-old was apprehended by U.S. Marshals and later flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is currently being held. The reasons behind his transfer to New Jersey before possibly being extradited to Miami remain unclear, as is the duration of his stay in Dubai, despite him posting on social media from there in recent months.

According to the arrest warrant filed on May 16, Brown allegedly obtained a handgun from member of the security staff during the boxing match and fired two shots at a man he previously had an altercation with. The victim, identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, reported that one of the bullets grazed his neck.

Details surrounding whether Brown has retained legal counsel are not yet known, nor has the timeline for his extradition to Miami been made available.

A second-degree attempted murder charge can result in a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching $10,000 if he is convicted.

Brown's legal troubles are extensive; he faced accusations ranging from battery of a moving truck driver to various domestic violence charges and failure to pay child support. Most notably, his abrupt exit from a 2021 game against the New York Jets, where he dramatically removed his jersey and pads, marked the end of his unsettled football career.
