James Handy, a character actor known for his roles in “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was found dead at his Los Angeles home after a stabbing. The 81‑year‑old was stabbed in the chest and was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Police responded after a 911 call from the son of a man who said, “I am the son of the man, I just killed the man of sin,” a statement that led officers to the scene.

Michael Gledhill, the 44‑year‑old, was arrested after he told officers that he was the person they were looking for. He was booked on suspicion of one count of murder and his bail was set at $2 million.

It is unclear whether Gledhill has had an attorney; jail records show no legal representation and messages to the county public defender’s office have not been returned.

Handy, a New York native, had a career spanning film and television, including the 1995 “Jumanji” and the 2022 “Top Gun: Maverick.” He also appeared on popular television crime dramas such as “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The Closer,” and “Cold Case.”

“I could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy,” Pam Ellis‑Evenas of Ellis Talent Group said in an email to the Associated Press.
