Pet Lion's Owners Arrested After Attack in Lahore

Authorities apprehend pet lion owners following shocking attack on mother and children in Pakistan.

In a startling incident in Lahore, Pakistan, the owners of a pet lion have been arrested after the animal attacked a woman and her three children, leading to serious safety concerns about keeping wild animals as pets.

In frightening footage captured by CCTV, the lion can be seen leaping over a concrete wall and pursuing a woman down the street. Onlookers fled in panic as the big cat targeted the woman and her kids, aged five and seven, who sustained injuries to their arms and faces but are now reported to be in stable condition. Local police charged the lion's owners with maintaining a wild animal without a proper license and negligence regarding its escape. Following the attack, the lion was tranquilized and relocated to a wildlife park.

In Pakistan, owning exotic big cats is often seen as a status symbol, with legal ownership permitted only after registering and paying a fee of 50,000 rupees (approximately $176). However, these animals are required to be housed outside city limits, a rule often ignored. Witnesses to the incident reported that the lion's owners stood idle as their pet attacked, prompting outrage and a swift response from local authorities. In the wake of the incident, a crackdown on illegal wildlife possession has led to the arrest of five individuals and the recovery of 13 lions.

Earlier this year, a popular YouTube personality faced legal consequences for illegally owning a lion cub, which highlights the ongoing issues of wildlife management in the region. The safety of the community remains a top priority as authorities strive to prevent future incidents involving exotic pets.
