School Bus Bombing in Pakistan Claims Lives of Students and Driver
At least six people, including four children, were killed in a targeted bombing of a school bus in Balochistan Province.
A devastating bombing incident in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan Province has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, including four schoolchildren, as they were being transported to a military-run school on Wednesday morning. The assault, which officials describe as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) explosion, targeted the school bus while it carried a total of 46 students.
Sarfraz Bugti, the chief minister of Balochistan, confirmed the casualties, which included the bus driver and a helper. He remarked during a press conference in Quetta that such attacks have become increasingly common in recent months, with militant groups deliberately selecting children and similar soft targets to exert their threats.
The tragic event unfolded in Khuzdar district, roughly 180 miles south of Quetta, the provincial capital. The bus was en route along a significant highway connecting the bustling cities of Quetta and Karachi when the attack occurred, further underscoring the risks associated with daily commutes in this volatile region. Amid ongoing separatist insurgencies and militant activities, the attack is a heartbreaking reminder of the imperiled security landscape faced by ordinary citizens, especially children in transit to school.
