The shooting scene is being attended by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) alongside local law enforcement efforts. Anaconda, a small city with close to 10,000 residents and known for its history as a copper production center, lies approximately 109 miles (or 175 kilometers) west of Bozeman.
The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center has named the suspect as Michael Paul Brown, warning that he is considered "armed and dangerous." Local authorities have urged the community to avoid approaching him and to contact emergency services if he is sighted. Residents are being advised to secure their homes and stay indoors while the authorities conduct searches and investigations.
Additionally, the Granite County Sheriff's Office has released information indicating that Brown was last seen wearing distinctive attire — a tie-dye shirt, blue jeans, and an orange bandana. Following the shooting, SWAT teams have searched Brown’s residence in Anaconda, declaring it "cleared."
Montana's Governor, Greg Gianforte, expressed his condolences on social media and is actively monitoring the situation as law enforcement works diligently to apprehend the suspect. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also involved, bolstering local efforts to locate Brown. Senator Steve Daines commented on the situation, stating that the ongoing "massive manhunt" is supported by police drones to assist in tracking the suspect's movements.
