NORTH CODORUS, Pa. (AP) — A shooting incident in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, tragically resulted in the deaths of three police officers and left two others critically injured. The incident occurred during a domestic-related investigation on Wednesday.
The shooter was engaged and killed by police during the conflict. Authorities have not yet released details about the shooter or the identities of the deceased officers, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
In a show of solidarity, community members held American flags and saluted as emergency services processed to the coroner’s office hours after the shooting.
Governor Josh Shapiro condemned the events, describing the loss of life as tragic. Attorney General Pamela Bondi echoed these sentiments, stating that violence against law enforcement is a scourge on society.
This event marks one of the deadliest days for Pennsylvania police this century, reminiscent of the 2009 ambush in Pittsburgh in which three officers lost their lives.
The regional police departments expressed their condolences on social media, with community members leaving flowers at the Northern York Regional Police Department headquarters.
The investigation continues as authorities gather information from multiple locations surrounding the incident. Witnesses reported hearing numerous shots, and a significant law enforcement presence was noted in the area post-shooting.
The two injured officers are currently receiving treatment at York Hospital, where they are reported to be in critical but stable condition.
