CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A man charged in a fatal shooting at a New Hampshire country club where patrons acted swiftly to stop the shooter was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

One person was killed and two others were injured in the incident at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua on Saturday night.

Hunter Nadeau, 23, of Nashua, was arrested nearby and faces a second-degree murder charge, with arraignment proceedings set for Monday afternoon. Nadeau was a former employee of the club, and his actions during the shooting reportedly caused panic among wedding attendees.

Tragically, Robert DeCesare Jr., 59, lost his life in the attack, with his wife Charlene detailing the moment he was shot while trying to protect her and their daughter. My husband got caught in the fire trying to protect us, she shared.

In the chaos, patrons exhibited remarkable heroism, with one individual reportedly striking Nadeau with a chair to help subdue him. Michael Homewood, a DJ at the wedding, commented, He probably saved a bunch of lives just doing that.”

New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella commended the bravery of the patrons, highlighting their selfless acts that helped avert a more significant tragedy. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the shooting. It was initially believed there could be two assailants; however, authorities confirmed there was only one.

As the community grapples with this horrific event, owner of the country club Rob Parsons expressed his heartbreak over the shooting. He described DeCesare as a hero and extended his condolences to the grieving family and friends affected by this tragedy.

Authorities continue to monitor the critical condition of one of the gunshot victims, a club employee, while another patron's status remains uncertain. The investigation is ongoing, with officials urging the public to be cautious of misinformation regarding the incident.
