Lizzo has achieved a significant legal win in her ongoing harassment case involving wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels, who claimed she experienced racial and sexual harassment as well as unpaid overtime while working for Lizzo’s touring company. A federal judge in Los Angeles determined that Daniels could not pursue legal action against Lizzo as an individual, instead recognizing her touring and payroll companies as the legitimate employers. However, the legal fight continues as Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc remains a defendant in the case.

U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha dismissed all seven claims against Lizzo and tour manager Carlina Gugliotta. The judge granted partial dismissal of certain claims, noting Daniels worked in Europe where U.S. employment laws do not apply.

Daniels alleges that she was subject to a toxic and sexually charged workplace environment overseen by Lizzo. These claims include allegations of racist and fatphobic behavior aimed at the models in Lizzo’s entourage. In response, Lizzo’s representatives dismissed the claims as a “publicity stunt,” while her legal team characterized Daniels as a “disgruntled” employee with baseless accusations.

Known for her empowering messages and hit songs, Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has faced multiple similar allegations in the past. Daniels' claims follow lawsuits from three former dancers of Lizzo’s tour, who accused her of sexual harassment and body-shaming during incidents in 2021 and 2023. Lizzo has vehemently denied these accusations, claiming they stem from former employees who were informed of their unprofessional behavior while on tour.

In early April, Lizzo reassured her fans that she is committed to her career, despite expressing frustration over the negative media attention aimed at her body image and character. She later clarified her stance, emphasizing her intention to disengage from negativity rather than leaving her musical endeavors. Lizzo and her touring company continue their fight against the remaining allegations, seeking closure in the legal turmoil surrounding her professional life.
