Donald Trump has paid writer E Jean Carroll more than $5.6 million in damages after a New York jury found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation in 2023. The amount, plus accrued interest during the appeal, was transferred to a court‑controlled account and released by the judge.
Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan said the payment matched the jury’s award and marked the end of a drawn‑out litigation that began with allegations of an assault in a Manhattan department store dressing room during the mid‑1990s.
Trump sought to delay the payment by asking the Supreme Court to overturn the lower court’s ruling, but a judge ultimately ruled he must pay the damages. His legal team declined to comment on the final settlement.
