OpenAI has shut down its artificial intelligence (AI) video-generation app Sora less than two years after its launch made headlines for creating realistic clips based on simple prompts.
At the same time, OpenAI will also wind down its content partnership with entertainment giant Disney, according to reports.
The company informed that they have discontinued Sora to focus on other developments, particularly robotics that aim to assist people with real-world physical tasks.
A spokesperson from Disney commented that they respect OpenAI's decision to exit the video generation business and will engage with other AI platforms in a way that responsibly utilizes the technology without compromising intellectual property rights.
Sora, which launched in December 2024, generated significant interest globally due to the quality of its AI-generated videos but also raised concerns regarding copyright issues and its impact on the media industry.
