TUCSON, Ariz. — The search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of ‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie, has entered its sixth day amid frustrating developments for investigators. Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that a crucial camera at Guthrie's home was found disconnected, rendering them unable to retrieve any footage from the day she went missing.
The sheriff expressed disappointment during a recent interview, stating, It is concerning, it’s actually almost disappointing because you’ve got your hopes up. OK, they got an image. ‘Well, we do, but we don’t.’” Investigators discovered that the doorbell camera had been disconnected before the incident, and due to a lack of active subscription, no footage was captured.
The family has been extremely anxious about Nancy Guthrie's health, as authorities emphasize that she requires daily medication crucial for her well-being. According to dispatcher audio, she has a pacemaker and suffers from high blood pressure and other health issues. Her conditions, I would imagine, are worsening day by day, Nanos remarked. She requires medication. And I have no way of knowing whether they’re getting that medication to her.”
The investigation has not yielded any suspects, and Sheriff Nanos has indicated that while information is being shared as the case progresses, there are elements of the investigation that must remain confidential for the integrity of the case. In light of this, investigators are still attempting to recover any possible footage, despite the initial setback.
"I wish technology was as easy as we believe it is, that here’s a picture, here’s your bad guy. But it’s not, he explained, noting the complexities involved in piecing together this investigation. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released an emotional video addressing their mother’s kidnapper, expressing their desire for proof that she is alive.
As the search continues, the case has attracted significant media attention, including involvement from federal authorities. Attorney General Pam Bondi indicated that federal officials are assisting in the investigation without providing further details on the nature of that assistance.
