A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening.
A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he tried to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also reported that he was killed by a settler.
The Israeli military claimed he was shot by an off-duty soldier, alleging that he was throwing stones.
Tayasir has recently seen increasing violence from settlers. Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are considered illegal under international law.
The killing occurs amid warnings from former Israeli security officials about government sponsored Jewish terrorism running rampant in the West Bank, coinciding with reports of the Israeli government approving numerous new settlements.
Tayasir is under the purported security control of the Palestinian Authority, with reports of contestants clashing there frequently.
Last month, a CNN crew was detained by Israeli soldiers while covering violence in the area.
Alaa's cousin described him as a respected member of the community, stating he was executed after defending his property from settlers, who were, according to him, operating under military protection.
The UN Human Rights Office emphasized the ongoing trend of escalating violence perpetrated by settlers against Palestinians, recording a rise in incidents throughout the year.
The ongoing situation presents a stark reflection on the policies and actions surrounding Israeli settlers in the West Bank, drawing attention to potential impunity and lack of accountability in the region.
