At least 10 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes and fighting between Hamas and an Israel-backed Palestinian militia in central Gaza, local sources say.
The strikes reportedly targeted Hamas security personnel who had clashed with members of the militia east of Maghazi refugee camp. It is not clear how many of those died in the strikes or in the fighting on the ground.
A spokesperson for al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah stated that the bodies of 10 people from the scene had been brought there. Dozens of other people were wounded, with some in critical condition.
Currently, there has been no immediate comment from the Israeli military or Hamas regarding the situation.
Witnesses reported that members of the Israel-backed militia attempted to set up a checkpoint east of Maghazi, which prompted an attack from Hamas security forces, leading to clashes. Subsequently, Israeli drones intervened, striking Hamas personnel in three locations.
This incident raises questions about the ceasefire agreements both parties had previously established nearly six months ago, which have been reportedly violated by both sides. According to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry, at least 723 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire.
In contrast, the Israeli military announced that five of its soldiers had been killed in assaults by Palestinian groups during the same period.
