In brief
In a startling incident on the Monash Freeway, a driver had to make a swift exit from her vehicle after discovering a venomous tiger snake had made its way into her car. Victoria Police were alerted to the situation when the distressed woman, who was reportedly driving at 80 km/h, felt a strange movement on her foot. As the snake began to climb her leg, she managed to navigate through traffic and pull over, emerging from her vehicle in a panic, leaving behind a shoe.
The police arrived on the scene to offer assistance and conduct a welfare check on the visibly shaken driver, who was seen attempting to flag down other motorists. Melbourne Snake Control was summoned to safely remove the snake, which was confirmed to be among the world's most venomous creatures. Following the ordeal, the driver was taken to the hospital with a suspected snake bite but was reported to be in good condition. Contrary to the horror of the situation, onlookers expressed a mix of shock and fascination as they watched the snake's removal. Tim Nanninga from Melbourne Snake Control noted that some passing motorists even recorded the incident on their phones. After the removal, he ensured the snake was returned to the wild, far from urban areas, allowing it to reintegrate into its natural habitat. With tiger snakes known for their potent venom, the woman was fortunate to escape with only a minor injury, reminding all of the unpredictable encounters that can occur when driving in Australia.
