In a surprising turn, the trio of celebrity attorneys – Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter – withdrew from the murder case of David Anthony Burke, known on stage as D4vd. The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has taken over the defence, setting the stage for a pre‑trial hearing on 19 October. Prosecutors warn that the switch could delay proceedings, potentially involve further evidence review or a motion to dismiss. Burke, who pleaded not guilty, is accused of murdering 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez amid allegations of sexual abuse and financial motives. The trio of high‑profile attorneys representing David Anthony Burke, better known as pop star D4vd, has resigned from the case. The departure came following a court order, and the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has now accepted the case.

Burke, who has pleaded not guilty to first‑degree murder, mutilation of human remains and child sexual abuse, faces a pre‑trial hearing scheduled for 19 October. Prosecutors say the change of counsel could slow proceedings and may trigger additional evidence review or a possible dismissal motion.

Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter – who previously defended Mel Gibson, Harvey Weinstein, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan – announced in a BBC statement that the court had granted their withdrawal. They noted that Burke “qualified for appointed counsel” and pledged ongoing support for his defence.

Los Angeles County's top prosecutor, Nathan Hochman, has confirmed that his office was ready to proceed and expressed readiness for zealous defence representation. He acknowledged potential delays caused by the lawyer change.

The case currently revolves around allegations that Burke killed 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez after she threatened to expose his relationship with a minor and ruin his multi‑million‑dollar music career. Prosecutors cite texts and threats from Hernandez as evidence of motive, alongside claims of sexual abuse.

The public defender's team, led by deputy public defender Walid Kandeel, will now assess evidence and prepare for a trial amid serious charges that could carry capital punishment given the special circumstances of financial gain.
