A 31‑year‑old British woman was stabbed at the Rosenheim railway station in southern Germany before 01:00 local time on Sunday, police announced. The victim was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the same day.
Police arrested a 27‑year‑old German man from the Fürstenfeldbruck district at the scene. His motive and the nature of his relationship to the victim are still unknown.
The authorities are asking anyone who saw a dispute or confrontation at the station between late Saturday and early Sunday to contact them.
The suspect will be brought before magistrates later on Sunday, as reported by the German news agency DPA.
Rosenheim, a key rail hub for passengers heading to Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck, has seen no signs of other security threats, the mayor said. He also noted that the incident is unrelated to the current Rosenheimer Herbstfest, a regional beer festival similar to Oktoberfest.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting the victim’s family and remains in communication with local authorities.
