British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured in a car crash in Nigeria, which killed two members of his team.
The former world champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway in Ogun State, near Lagos.
The two men who died were Joshua's close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Latz Ayodele, the boxer's promoter Matchroom Boxing said in a statement.
Joshua was taken to a hospital for checks and treatment and will remain for observation. Police have determined that the Lexus experienced a tyre burst due to excessive speed, leading to the fatal accident.
Joshua's recent social media activities included a video of him with Mr. Ayodele just hours before the crash. Tributes have poured in for Ghami and Ayodele, with many in the boxing community expressing their condolences and respect for their contributions to Joshua's career.
Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his personal condolences to Joshua, confirming he was in stable condition and assured he is receiving top-notch medical care.
