On March 6, Sudiksha Konanki, who traveled with friends to a Punta Cana resort, was recorded on surveillance footage while with a group headed toward the beach. She is a 20-year-old biology and chemistry major, a dual citizen of India and the U.S., and has family ties in Chantilly, Virginia. Interactions captured on video indicate she was left on the beach with a male companion, Joshua Riibe, while the rest of the group returned to the hotel.

During a press briefing, Dominican President Luis Abinader shared that the last known contact with Konanki involved a wave hitting her and Riibe while they were on the beach. Her family and friends remain hopeful for her safe return. The Riibe family expressed their trust in the investigation process and requested fairness and transparency amid the unfolding situation.

In response to the incident, authorities have been heavily engaged in search efforts, deploying drones and utilizing AI technology to analyze ocean footage for any signs of Konanki. Despite extensive searches, no physical evidence of violence or foul play has been uncovered, heightening concerns about her well-being. The University of Pittsburgh has confirmed collaboration with the FBI, DEA, DHS, and local law enforcement as they support the search for their missing student.

Additionally, Interpol has issued a yellow notice aimed at locating persons missing under unexplained circumstances, underscoring the seriousness of the investigation and the urgency of finding Sudiksha. Local authorities continue to urge individuals with knowledge of her whereabouts to come forward to aid in the ongoing search.
