Iconic Schumacher Ferrari Achieves Record Auction Price of £13.43m
The legendary F2001, victorious in the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix, sets a new auction record for Schumacher memorabilia.
The legendary Ferrari that Michael Schumacher piloted to glory during the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix has been sold for a staggering 15.98 million euros (£13.43 million) at a recent auction hosted by RM Sotheby's. The F2001, which also secured victories at the Hungarian Grand Prix that same year, helped Schumacher clinch the fourth of his eventual seven world titles.
This auction took place just ahead of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix qualifying sessions, marking the F2001 as the most expensive car connected to Schumacher, 56, ever sold at auction. It stands as the fourth most expensive Formula One car sold to date; a record was established earlier this year when a Mercedes 'streamliner,' driven by racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, fetched an impressive £42.75 million.
Prior to this event, the highest fee for a Schumacher-driven car was £9.75 million, reached during the auction of his F2003 in 2002. As excitement builds around Ferrari’s performance, hopes are high that current driver Charles Leclerc can replicate Schumacher’s past achievements, having secured a second position on the grid at the prestigious Monte Carlo circuit, just behind McLaren's Lando Norris.
