Tragic Incident in Iraq: Methane Exposure Claims Lives of 12 Turkish Soldiers
A routine search operation turns deadly as Turkish soldiers encounter hazardous methane gas in Iraq.
In a tragic incident during a search operation in Iraq, twelve Turkish soldiers have succumbed to the effects of methane gas exposure. The Turkish Ministry of National Defence confirmed that the casualties occurred while the troops were conducting a search and clear operation on Sunday. At least 19 soldiers were reported to be exposed to the gas and were subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment.
As part of the operation, the troops were attempting to locate the body of a fellow soldier who had been killed in gunfire in May 2022. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the remains of the fallen soldier have yet to be recovered. The incident highlights the hidden dangers that can arise in military operations, particularly in challenging terrains like caves and underground sites, where toxic gases may accumulate.
