Labour Party Suspends MP Dan Norris Following Arrest on Serious Charges

On April 5, 2025, the Labour Party in the United Kingdom announced the suspension of Dan Norris, a member of Parliament, after authorities arrested him. The Labour Party issued a statement noting that Mr. Norris was suspended upon notification of his arrest, but could not comment further as the police investigation continues.

While details surrounding his arrest remain scarce, it has been reported that Mr. Norris, 65, is under suspicion for serious allegations, including rape, child sex offenses, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office. According to a statement from Avon and Somerset Police, a male in his 60s was arrested on Friday on these suspicions and has since been released on conditional bail. Although the police have withheld specific details, they indicated that these alleged offenses mainly relate to incidents believed to have occurred in the 2000s, along with additional allegations of rape from the 2020s. Mr. Norris secured a parliamentary seat in North East Somerset and Hanham during the previous election cycle, defeating former Conservative cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg. Mr. Norris has maintained a long-standing political career that traces back more than twenty years, having previously served from 1997 to 2010 as the representative for Wansdyke. His roles included assistant whip under Tony Blair and a junior minister within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs during Gordon Brown's premiership.
