In response to this crisis, more than 400 firefighters have been mobilized, utilizing fire-fighting planes, helicopters, and boats to combat the inferno. Chios, known for its unique resin-producing mastic trees, typically sees an increase in tourism during the summer, adding urgency to the firefighting efforts.
Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis, described the situation as increasingly dire due to "new fronts and resurgences" exacerbated by unfavorable climatic conditions.
