An unusual incident unfolded in Orlando, Florida, where a thief is alleged to have swallowed prestigious Tiffany earrings valued at over half a million dollars just before his arrest. The accused, Jaythan Gilder, 32, reportedly deceived Tiffany & Co. staff by claiming to represent a "professional athlete," which allowed him access to numerous high-end pieces in the store.
After allegedly making off with the earrings, Gilder was pursued by law enforcement, who observed him swallowing items believed to be the stolen jewelry. According to the Orlando Police Department, he attempted to pilfer two pairs of earrings valued at $769,500 (£597,000) and allegedly dropped a diamond ring during his flight from the scene.
Authorities later released an x-ray image depicting a foreign object in the suspect's abdomen, although they did not confirm whether they managed to retrieve the stolen items. Notably, Gilder has a prior history of theft from Tiffany & Co., having robbed a Texas store in 2022. Additionally, Colorado law enforcement has issued 48 arrest warrants against him.
He has been charged with robbery while wearing a mask and grand theft in the first degree for stealing goods valued at more than $100,000. As with all criminal suspects, he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
