Yung Filly Faces Retrial on Rape Charges
British YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly (real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos) will return to the Perth court on 27 August after a jury cleared him of three rape counts but could not reach a verdict on the remaining charges. The rapper, 31 years old, is accused of repeatedly raping and assaulting a 20‑year‑old fan during a 2024 performance at a Perth nightclub and later in his hotel room.
In the first trial, Yung Filly denied all ten charges. He was acquitted of one assault, one strangulation and was found not guilty on three separate rape claims. However, the court found him guilty of two assault counts – for which sentencing is scheduled after the retrial.
According to court documents, the judge described the case as involving consensual sex that allegedly turned violent when the rapper allegedly ignored the fan’s pleas to stop. Prosecution witnesses argue that Filly delivered a “patriarchal” and “entitled” remark, while defence lawyers point to “inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies” in the complainant’s testimony.
Filly’s case illustrates how the public perception of online celebrities can be complicated by legal proceedings. Though he has appeared on the celebrity edition of Bake Off and hosted shows on BBC Three, the allegations will ultimately determine whether the entertainer can continue his career in Australia.
The reclaimable evidence of the complainant has reportedly been offered again, and the court’s next step involves a bail variation hearing scheduled for 27 August. The retrial date has yet to be set, but the outcome will be pivotal for Filly’s future both onstage and on screen.
