In brief
Ukrainian drones struck two Wildberries warehouses in Tambov and Elektrostal, killing eight and injuring 62. The attacks targeted logistics hubs allegedly linked to drone component supply, prompting Zelensky’s condemnation of Russia’s use of civilians sites. Local governors reported 28 and 48 drones shot down respectively, and Ukraine’s focus has shifted to Russian energy infrastructure, claiming nearly 43 % of refinery capacity disabled. Wildberries, a Russian Amazon‑style retailer valued at about $12.6 bn, confirmed the tragedy as a “terrible night” for the company. The incident raises questions about the blurring line between commercial and military targets in the ongoing war.
Eight people were killed and 62 injured when Ukrainian drones struck two Wildberries warehouses in Russia, according to officials.
The first strike hit a warehouse in Tambov, 475 km southeast of Moscow. Seven night‑shift workers died on the spot and 25 others were wounded by shrapnel. The second attack targeted a facility in Elektrostal, a Moscow‑region town, killing one worker and injuring 37 civilians.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the raids struck “major logistics facilities” used to supply components for drone production and navigation. He added that Ukraine had also struck targets in the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea, and Russian‑annexed Crimea.
Unverified footage shows the Tambov warehouse erupting in flames and black smoke, with dozens of staff fleeing into a parking area as explosions continue. The attacks started at night, with workers rushing to safety amid lingering blasts.
“The largest attack on the Tambov region in terms of drones and casualties,” said Governor Evgeniy Pervyshov on Telegram, noting 28 drones were shot down. Moscow‑region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported 48 drones intercepted overnight and an oil depot hit by a falling drone, calling it a serious incident.
Wildberries, often dubbed Russia’s Amazon, is part of the RWB group and was valued at about $12.6 billion by Forbes in 2026. CEO Tatyana Kim described the night as “terrible” for the country and the company.
Ukraine’s intensified long‑range drone assaults have targeted Russian energy assets, reportedly disabling 43 % of Russia’s oil refining capacity. The Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to respond, and Zelensky confirmed an oil facility was struck.
