Donald Trump orders U.S. bombers out of RAF Fairford

The United States has withdrawn about a dozen B‑1 bombers from the Gloucestershire airfield after the White House cited a new threat to the base.

The Pentagon confirmed the move, explaining that security concerns arose following an incident in which police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford on 27 September.

Trump told reporters outside the White House that Washington "knew the people that made the threat" but did not identify the source of the danger.

The departure of the bombers was described by Vice‑President JD Vance as an “abundance of caution,” while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision was not directly tied to the incident but reflected routine adjustments to deployments.

British authorities have released initial suspects who were arrested on terror‑related charges, and a UK‑Iranian national was also later detained but subsequently released on bail.
