A plane with 12 people on board has crashed in Kwale near Kenya's coast, the aviation authority has reported.

The flight was traveling from the coastal town of Diani to a resort in Kichwa Tembo before it went down at 05:30 local time (02:30 GMT), according to a statement from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Local police have indicated that tourists were among those on board. Kenyan media outlets have shared images depicting the plane engulfed in flames and debris scattered around the crash site.

The KCAA has announced that government agencies are present at the scene to determine the cause of the accident and assess its implications.
