A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night, claiming the lives of 42 individuals, mainly Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals, when a bus overturned on a mountainous stretch of the N1 highway in Limpopo province, South Africa.
According to local transport officials, the bus veered off the road and plunged down an embankment, resulting in a significant loss of life. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed profound sorrow over the accident, emphasizing that the tragedy extends beyond South Africa, affecting the neighboring countries of Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The victims included seven children, 18 women, and 17 men, with approximately 49 others injured. The exact number of passengers aboard the bus at the time of the crash is still uncertain.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident. Government officials, including Transport Minister Barbara Creecy, are scheduled to visit the crash site and the injured in hospital.
